it's like 50-60% BS'ng, 30% missing and 5% unfound, or other hunters getting your birds. but a lot of fun and well worth the 60$ and 2+ hour drive for me.

12 vs 20 will be a good debate. I shoot the 20 because i have about a zillion shells floating around. For a few seasons i shot 28 ga.(ammo was 14 $$ a box). Sure was nice and quiet and light, but way to nice of a weapon for me to own. One thing to keep in mind, most shot shells generate about the same velocity. For dove shooting velocity is around 1300 fps give or take. With the mighty 12 ga there is just more of it than compared to the smaller gauges. And now to the good stuff. Show up with some good stories and a chair that has arm rests, back rest and a well calibrated BS meter. Just something about seeing nacho man wearing a large sombraro covered in dove feathers head to toe. Or seeing trick shot gunnyboy knock a dove out the sky, glass of tea in one hand and a 60 year old vintage shotgun in the other. Keep an eye out for the banjo and dont eat to much jerky.

Finally got around to shooting some clay today. 1 round of trap with the 12 ga & 1 round of skeet with the 20 ga, first time ever shooting skeet. I stunk on ice! I was probably 15 years younger than any of the regulars there, and they shot circles around me. those doves got nothing to worry about from me. trap is like pee-wee T-ball compared to skeet.

Shooting the game of skeet sounds easy. The clay bird flys the same path every time it comes out of the house. I can understand why you had a hard time Nacho man. After watching some old geezers smash clay birds into dust, I had to try it. Little did I know they were all cheating. Shooting handloded shells they had about 2 pounds of shot in each shell, they were all cheating. How else can a guy over the age of 112 and reflexes the speed of dust break any clay let alone ones on a skeet field. So dont feel too bad Nachoman sounds like those guys were cheating too.

I think a blunderbuss could make a fine skeet gun if it had two barrels. I usually skip skeet and shoot the 5 stand, trap and sporting clays.
