Palm Beach County may push for statewide ban on high-capacity ammo clips

By Jennifer Sorentrue

Tue Feb. 15, 6:48AM
Palm Beach County commissioners this morning will decide whether to ask state lawmakers to ban the sale of high-capacity gun magazines like the one used in the shooting that wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed six people in Arizona.

County Commissioner Burt Aaronson called for the ban last month, during a meeting of the commission and the county's legislative delegation.

At the time, Aaronson said he also planned to push for a Palm Beach County-only measure to limit magazines to no more than 10 shots. But such a measure is prohibited under state law, which prevents counties, cities, and towns from enacting local regulations on guns and ammunition.

Instead, commissioners are expected to vote on a resolution that would be sent to urge state lawmakers to support a statewide ban.

The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. and will be held at the county's government center, 301 N. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach.

A federal ban on large capacity magazines expired in 2004. Since that time, several states have enacted bans.

All the voters down there should be pissed off that these guys are wasting their time on such foolishness. There's plenty of other problems in Palm Beach County, they don't need to go looking for more where they don't exist.

I was just checking out some drums. Guess I'll have to go ahead and order some now.
