I hunted Indiana once was the coldest place Ive ever been.Hard to hunt when your shaking from the cold.I had to heat my truck key with a lighter to get it in lock.It even rained ice pellets
It can get mighty cold up there. During muzzleloader season is almost impossible to stay in your stand for more than 2-3 hours, no matter how many layers you put on. Snow sure makes blood trailing and figuring out deer movement easy though.
I can't sit more than 2-3 hrs when the weather is nice. ANywhere after Dec can be frigid, the worst I ever sat in was in Al. in Feb. New York was also cold in Nov.
down here you gotta learn how to dress down to stay cool and avoid heat stroke, find clothes that are light and wick away sweat. tree umbrellas are for shade more than keeping rain off you, and if doing any moving around plan on being wet from the waist down alot. a thermacell to keep skeeters away is a must have, as well as bug spray, and carry some water with you always.
Except when I slipped in the ice in Jan and got soaked and froze to the bone when it was a mere 22 F.
I love hunting in cold weather, just not going to a bayed hog that you have to go thru 100 yards of water to get to at 8:00 am. Then the dang thing breaks and you have to go back to the truck thru the water again.
