welcome, it takes a little time to figure things out but stick with it. What kind of game are you after, deer or hogs or both?

links to WMA's in your area. i have never hunted down there, so i can't recommend one over the other. some other tips.

hard to know what to say, what kind of equipment do you have?..stands, blinds, etc. don't leave your gear on a WMA, it gets stolen, thats been my experience anyhow, unless you hide it really well.

also, make sure you always carry a compass and or a GPS, and most important, know how to use them. think safety, let someone know where you are going. and use a harness if hunting from a elevated stand. practice getting out of the harness while hanging, make sure it's a full body harness, even with those, you will pass out within a short time from suspension trauma, so the idea with the harness, is that if you fall, you only fall a few inches to a foot, so you can get back in the stand.

dress properly! nothing makes a hunt more miserable than freezing/getting eating alive by bugs! buy the best gear you can get, i went through many sets of boots, for example, till i realized it's hard to get a good set of foot wear for under a $100. and I have boots for the warm times, and the cold wet days.

start walking the woods, look for deer sign, and other animal signs, trails, droppings, and so on. lots good books and such are available on the subject.

practice in your yard, not the shooting, but all the other little tricks, say you use a climbing stand, can you put it together and get it on the tree in the dark? all trees are not equal, the diameter of the tree will determine what the angle is as you climb, nothing is more frustrating that getting up and realizing you are sitting at the wrong angle! and don't try to adjust it while in the tree.

now that you are up in the tree, how to get the rifle and you pack up? use a pull rope, but is it long enough, is it so thin that it hurts your hands? as you pulled it up,did the muzzle get stuck in the mud, because you did not attach it to a center point? what do you do with the stuff once you get it all up? how do you hang your pack? is there somewhere to hang your gun?

how are you gonna go to the bathroom when you are 20 foot up a tree?...i know what guys do, but for a woman this would present...a more complicated problem....

theres a million more things i can think of...but i would never get any work done today..lol

As to getting access to private land, best way is to drive around and ask the landowners, and it is best to do this in the off season. or pay the money and get on a lease.

and don't get discouraged, i hunted for years before i ever took a deer, and if i just see animals, i consider it a good hunt.

welcome to the outdoors!
