Hi y'all.
So, I'm new here and new to hunting. I am kinda learning as I go with no teacher or hunting family in the area I'm looking for as much info as I can. I am interested in hunting just about everything I can legally hunt as long as I can eat it. I have no idea where to hunt. I have looked into the WMAs but have heard that they are very crowded, if you can even get a permit. I know that there are other WMA that do not require quotas, but again I have been told you need a buggy to access them or that they are crowded.
So, my problem is where do you all hunt at?
Thank you all in advance for your help and kindness.
Welcome to the forum! Between now and the next season opening up I'm sure we can help you get ready, maybe arrange a hunt or two with someone to show you the ropes. We all had to start somewhere!
Welcome to the site. :toast
Hi Huntress;
I don't have a buggy, I don't have a boat, I don't have a 4 wheel drive.
I'm a stay at home dad with 1 shotgun and a mini van and I managed to get out almost 2 dozen times last season...
Some WMA's are crowded, and some hunts require quotas, do the research now, figure out your driving distances, gas costs, quota application periods, etc.
Read the FWC site, scout if you can during the off season and get to know the areas you'll be hunting.
Lastly tell us more about yourself. Where you're at, where you'll be hunting, what and how you'll be hunting, someone whose style meshes with yours will see you and say hey...
welcome, don't know where your from but if you go to wma's at off peak days/times, they can be not crowded at all. for a newbie I'd recommend a penned meat hog shoot as a way to learn and experience things with a lot of action practically guaranteed. look at that pen as a large classroom and you are paying for the education, then later you will be more confident and knowledgeable when going solo or with others. good luck.
