Hello my name is David, and I am 27. I live in the Tampa area for most of my life (minus time in the Army). I have never been hunting, but have always wanted to get involved in the sport. I am about $200 dollars shy of getting my first personal rifle (going for the Tikka T3 lite in 30.06). I went with the Bushnell Trophy 4-12 x40 DOA scope. I joined the site to get information and tips from established mature hunters. Along with hoping to meet some people that might be able to some me and my friend (he is just waiting on me to get my rifle) the ropes with hunting in Florida. I hope i can learn a lot from the members here, and be able to pass the information on to my son (he will be 2 in march, I know he still has a while) when he starts to hunt.

a pic of the family

welcome aboard. nice gun and caliber,BUT certain wma's do not allow centerfire rifles, not a problem if your hunting private land. if I had to have 1 gun in fla it would be a shotgun and a few different barrels: one scoped rifled barrel for sabot slugs, and a smoothbore barrel with removeable choke tubes for buckshot, bird shot, rifled slugs. then you could hunt deer, hogs, turkey, quail and dove with one gun and a decent one will cost about 1/2 what your gonna spend on the tika. also as a personell prefference I prefer lower power scopes, as alot of the game is taken very close and often moving. we've been round and round about what scopes to use ( read other posts on the subject ). anyway good to have you with us and if you can afford it get the tika and a shotgun you will definately need one probably sooner than later.
