Me, Huntingfool, and his soon hit the bay in his boat Saturday. Put in @ Gandy, ran to a secret spot and loaded the bait well with greenies, and went fishin
Hit several of his snook spots and they just weren't there yet.
Ran to weedon to one of his "honey holes", turned out it was one of mine as well. I've fished it many times in my kayak. Ended up catching about 5 snook there, and saw a couple good sized ones cruising around that would not eat
Hit a few other places. The wind was bumping pretty good, and the tides were really slack. Ended up with a few trout and got into a school of macks, but couldn't stay with them
Ended up bringing home 2 trout and one mack for the frying pan.
His boy with a snook
Great job guys! I was out there on Sat too. Kids wanted a boat ride. I drove the boat right by Weedon and saw all the boats there. One of those boats was you guys!
Sweet deal! I live by the beach, and the fishing has been stellar. I mainly fish from land, and have caught several snook this spring. I really do not think the closure was warranted. The snook bite has been good, the trout are on fire, and they have been on the large size. The biggest problem I have had is trying to keep the tarpon off of my lures. It gets expensive losing 8 to 12$ bombers, and Yozuri plugs when fishing with what amounts to a bream rod when hooking 1. With snook being closed I mainly pompano fish after the sun rises. They have been biting well also if I can catch the right tide.
If you guys fish around Gandy, and the HF I here the pompano bite has been good up there also. You guys shoud give it a whirl next time. Doc's goofy jig in yellow, and white with a pink teaser tie together with a loop knot. Jig around the bridges. A little birdie told me 3 to 5 pilons out on the east side of HF, and Gandy all the way to the mid span in the early am has been good for pompano with a few flounder mixed in. You should see some tarpon to if you have a desire to catch 1. Anyway way to put some fish in the box.
Nice going guy's. :toast
