So I get up at daybreak on Friday and head over to the Dunedin Causeway. I stop at the bait shop and talk with the guy working there. He points me in the right direction and I head over to the area he suggests.
As soon as I get there, I see bait bustin the surface. I wade in waist deep and start freelining shrimp. I still have bait bustin all around me. After losing the shrimp, I grab my cast net and make one throw. I catch about 2 dozen finger mullet. Score!!!
Throw about 15 of them into the bait bucket and leave the others for the birds to have breakfast.
I wade back out and start freelining shrimp again. Fed a bunch of pinfish and keep getting grass on the hook. I throw a cork on the line and start getting hits. Threw a finger mullet out and eventually it died without any hits. Threw another shrimp out and my cork goes under. I start reeling and something starts peeling line... After a minute or two, I see a huge tail come out of the water with a big spot on it... Awesome... Another 5 minutes later and I finally get her in.
She measured just over 30" and was heavy. I'd say solid 8 to 10 lbs easy. I did a little CPR (Catch, Photo, Release) and off she went to be caught again....
A little while later I fished on Honeymoon Island and caught a small trout on a finger mullet. Was trying to get a snook bite to fill the Grand Slam, but couldn't find any...
Will definitely fish out there again some time soon.... Crappy cell phone pic...
Good job!!
