Good choice! Have one of each and they both work great given the right situations. Going with a 7MM-08 or .308 would give you more bullet options, lighter and heavier... Let us know how it turns out...

great comments by everyone,, glad to see every ones opinion and no arguing and fighting, but constructive points of view. Will start looking, and down to 2 choices 7mm-08 or .243 unless a super deal on 1 comes my way.

It's all good,a little difference of opinion is good. We don't want it to be boring here. All I know is I have killed a lot of critters thru the years, and shots are not always perfect, twigs get in the way or whatever the reason nobody is a perfect shot.Good luck with your choice,I just got back from Gander and almost bought .300 win mag. Was on sale for 550.00 ,a Tikka. HAd it in my hands and talked myself out of it.

wise move, that cal in the tika would be a shoulder breaker, plus there isn't as wide of a bullet wt selection in that cal as there is in 30-06 or 300wsm. if you want the 300 win mag id recomend moving up in wt and bbl thickness a little like the sako, or something in the 7-8 lb range.

It was a wooden stock not composite. Trust me I was there for a few hsr. I think I am gonna get a 300,it the same as a 06 just more powder.I also stopped at wal-mart in Bushnell on the way home. THey has a camo rem m700 in 7mm with a camo stock and cheap scope for less thgan 500.00. You can order most Rem700's from walmart at a better price. I was also looking at a 700 sps Buckmaster model for I think 575.00.It was camo and matte finish. That Tikka was a sweet rifle though, it's on sale thrul next weekend for 550.00 it has a walnut stock.

I've got a winchester m70 300 win mag with composite stock. Its no fun at the range but not too bad. And how often do you really feel the shot when your hunting anyway.
