I've got 16" Rocky snake boots, and the first year they were very waterproof. After that, not so much. Last year, I got my feet soaked just walking through wet grass after a rain. Another time, the boots filled up with water while I was wearing them in the rain, and I had rain gear on. I hope they protect me more from snakes than water. Now I carry extra socks in a ziploc bag in my pack, and I bring dry boots along if I plan on wading any water. I think I'll go for the gaitors or chaps next time. I think chaps a size too big would allow more air to circulate.
I've got gaiters and never really thought they were too hot. I bought a pair of snakeproof rubber muck boots and they're great. Only problem is they don't have the straps to tighten them on your leg so they are a little too loud to try and stalk something down.
i've been using Lacross, Strikers for 2 years and haven't gotten wet yet

Electric tape, bungee cords, or old boot laces around the tops.
i have snake boots, chaps and gaiters. don't wear them all at the same time though...lol . I prefer just wearing boots. but walking through palmettos and stuff will wear them out quick. the soles on my boots usually come off in 1 year. then it is time to get the gorilla glue out and put them back on. have tried couple different types of Rocky boots and Redhead boots. haven't hade a pair of either stay waterproof longer than 1 season. one of these days i will open up the wallet and buy a good pair of snake boots.
