Just picked up an CVA Optima, took it to the range and this thing is sweet. Can't wait till BP season. Was thinking about using the BP for small game hunting hogs, instead of my shotgun with slugs. Was wondering what others are using during small game for hogs shotguns or BP and reasons why.

well for still hunting I've used a 3 1/2" 12 ga dixie tri-balls (3- 60 cal hard cast balls, 2oz load) with a 24" smoothbore, if sitting or in a stand a 24" scoped rifled bbl 12 ga, or muzzy. now with recoil issues I'm leaning towards a 22 mag.

Shotgun, it sucks if you miss that first shot. I like to have a second and third, besides what happens when three or four nice hogs present an opportunity... Muzzy 1 shot, shotgun 5 shots....

Muzzy I love the rush from stalking 10 to 20 yards on a hog. Last year I got to 10 yards from a boar as I raised the bow he spun around I thought he was gonna charge at me but he blew like a deer and all 15 got ghost.
