Fellers, I have been reading your posts concerning certain knife companies and I agree that the Case knives are among the better knives that most of us can afford to lose. A lot of the older Case knives you couldn't afford to lose! This being said, there is a web site known as AAPK that will answer most questions about knives. Case and Shrade (Old Timer, Uncle Henry, Shrade, Shrade-Walden) are not the same company. Case is still located in Pa. and Schrade was a NY. company. Sad to say that most all the Shrade products are now mfg. in China. Also some of our beloved Buck knives are from China. Noticed a Buck display in Wally world the other day and the packaging tells where the knife was made. Both USA and China were repersented in the Buck display. I recently read where there are only about 5 companies making "over the counter" pocket knives in this country. There are many custom makers putting some wonderful knives in the pockets of those able to afford them. One of the regular contributors on the AAPK site has a little saying that he signs off with, "Life's too short to carry a cheap knife!" Treefarmer

One of my favorite knives is an old set of two knives in one sheath made by Case, one knife is a short 4 inch blade and the other is a 5 or 6 inch blade, bought them new in 1982 and have never had any issues with them! Skinned and cleaned a lot of small game and deer with them over the years and the leather handles have held up quite well for almost 30 years old! Need to hit those handles with some mink oil again!
