If hunting public land and wanting to get off the beaten path, you need a climber that is reliable, light and easy to use. After buying, testing and getting rid of several models in the past 4 years, my favorite so far is the Summit Open Shot. At 14 pounds is as lighter as they can get, easy to use (if you don’t mind open stands) and extremely comfortable (seat is 4 inches thick). I got mine from Ebay, new in box, free UPS shipping for $199.00. The only negative I can see is that the platform is on the small side, but nothing I’m concerned with.

You'll get a ton of different opinions on this one. I haven't found a seat as comfortable as the summit. I even put one on my API after the other one was eaten by a bear. My summit grabs on tight to the tree and is as solid as any other stand I've been in. I like my buckshot ( same as an equalizer ) because I like to face the tree during gun. I personally don't care for the open climbers only cause I'm sure I'll fall out. I'm gonna look at putting a mole strap on mine to make them easier to carry a long distance. Keep an eye out on craigslist and any hunting forums. Good deals come around all the time.
