Man I miss my 30-30. 🙁
I like the 30-30 but am going 44 in a rifle and revolver so I can stay in the same caliber
Went to buy a new 30-30 with a scope 400 for the package today and going out to the car in the rain the owner fell down and dropped it, broke the scope, sight off the gun and other damage, he and I were sick!
I think he'd be fine with a 12 gauge and a .30-30 for deer and hog in Florida. Not to good of a round out past 100 yards, but most shots in FL are inside 100 yards. Bottom line, it all depends on what and where you are hunting and how much your check book can handle. It's also depends on what you want, and not necessarily on what you need. All you will ever need to hunt everything or anything in North America is a 12 gauge pump shotgun, a .22 LR rifle, a .45 ACP semi auto pistol, and a .30-30, .308, or .30-06. As far as I'm concerned I have a rifle and shotgun for almost every hunting situation, situation and game species I enjoy hunting. As far as my "hunting" guns go I have five lever action rifles, eight bolt action rifles, a pump rifle, two pump shotguns, two semi auto shotguns, a SXS shotgun. I feel I have my bases covered for any type of North American game I want to hunt. Another friend of mine only has three guns and in his opinion has his bases covered. Another buddy of mine has over 75 "hunting" guns and he believes he has his bases covered. Again it all depends on your preferences, your wallet, and your interest in weapons, shooting sports, and hunting.

in my mind, my opinion on the 30-30 has changed. used to think of it as a "under 100 yds gun", but with the hornady leverevolutions my opinion has changed. Am clover leafing 3 shots at 100 yds and can hit a small spinner target out at 200 yds. Have put a scope on mine and would have no problem shooting out to 200 yds. Anything longer than that i have my trusty 270 for. Took and made a few shots this year out past 200 yds with it. Alot of it is knowing your weapon and putting in the range time. I believe that iluv2hunt has made many shots with his 30-30 out past 100 yds with them leverevolutions.
