If you still have the piece you cut off and it is in one piece. See if you can figure out the angle the stock had. Many/most are not a perfectly squared/flat 90 degrees, try to maintain that angle as able. A disc sander is a great tool for sanding the stock & butt pad. Just go easy with the grit of the sandpaper. I have a short lop 13 1/4"- 13 1/2". just ask gunboy or wingmaster how short my stocks are. the standard lop today is 14 1/4" from MOST factories, One reason I prefer older guns, or ones that have already been shortened.

I may just take it to a gunsmith. He does pretty good work. I think he said he would do it for $40.

I'd bet most of nacho's stocks are 12"-12 1/2" LOP including recoil pads.. He has an extremely short forearm and therefore his LOP is extremely short.

If the gunsmith DOESN'T ask to measure the intended shooters LOP before cutting or adding a recoil pad, you would be correct in saying that he just does pretty good work. Kinda like a surgeon who does "pretty good" work. Not on me he won't. Most of these gunsmiths today can mount scopes and maybe attach open sights. Sling stud swivels is a major undertaking. Ask ILUV2HUNT how long a tap job for screw in chokes took, only a 2-3 hour job and they had his gun for nearly 6 months, they had to send it out, couldn't do it at the local gunsmith....

Without knowing the correct LOP for the intended shooter, within 1/4", you can cut the stock as much or as little as you like and it won't fit the intended shooter properly, which besides the inability to consistently hit anything, felt recoil will be more, due to improper fit. Additionally, you need to determine drop of comb and how the comb height fits or doesn't fit the intended shooter, if the comb drops too much or doesn't drop enough, all the shortening or lengthening of stock length in the world won't fix inconsistent accuracy or felt recoil. 2/3rds of shooters who have recoil issues or consistent accuracy issues with a firearm is due to improper gun fit and has nothing to do with the functionality of the firearm.

Had you reached out to Wingshooter, Nacho or I like I offered in one of my initial posts we could have given you a step by step run down or came by and helped you do it correctly, and saved you time, effort, energy and now $$$$$$.

It really isn't as difficult as you may think, if you have ANY exp with tools/wood. it would be a good time to strip the wood and re-coat it with trueoil or tung oil and make a great Christmas present. In gunsmith years & right before hunting season, you may not see that gun for some time. And my shotguns are NO 12 inches! the browning is short cuz it needs 1 more spacer & I'm not quite done playing with it yet at 13 1/16", the montfeltro is a solid 13 1/2". my forearms are fine, it's the big MOOBS and wrist braces causing trouble. I hate it when the recoil pad snags my nipple ring.
