What broadhead was you shooting?
Muzzy 3 blade. I haven't even had a problem with them penetrating before but there's a first time for everything. With that angle I think I just hit too much bone. I find it really hard to break myself from shooting deer in the shoulders, as that's where I always aim for when shooting a firearm. You just can't do that with a arrow and expect a pass through everytime..
You ain't the only one. I had a complete pass thru on a doe with a Muzzy 3 blade on Monday right thru the boiler room, but the blood just stopped after about 40 yards. No deer anywhere w/in 20 acres, and we walked the entire property. I'm switchin to the NAP Bloodrunners.
Nearly the same shot on this buck as the 4pt Sunday just better penetration and at a better downward angle, although this one was struggling to make it 40 yds and nearly fell when it blasted through his shoulders. I dug a quarter of the broken arrow and the muzzy blades were still intacted but slightly bent. I can't even descibe the carnage to the shoulders and vitals. On the exit side the shoulder was broke, after traveling through the vitals and other shoulder.
I was watching 2 does and a spotted fawn feeding around me and they started looking to my right in the hammock. I heard some steps and looked over to see this buck feeding on acorns and making his way straight to me. Once I saw a flash of antler I knew this was the buck, the one I really wanted.
I turned my attention to the does and tried to calm my nerves as he was headed towards them. I just had to look at where he was coming out at, so I turned slightly to see he was going to walk right by the base of my stand. He walked by the ladder and I kept think I was shaking so badly that the stand was creaking. It was quite a relief to see him move out into the open and start back feeding. As he fed, he turned broadside about 18-20 yds out. He feed around and I picked up my bow and got ready for a chance to draw. It felt like forever (20-30 sec max lol) and they all finally heard a noise towards the main grade and they all turned away from me and I came to full draw.
When at full draw, I lined it up and steadied my nerves and felt like I had already got over a hurdle coming to full draw without them noticing. The hind sight crosshairs steadied over the pin as he slightly turned. I found vitals and steadied again on the lungs, took a breath and released. High shoulder pinned hard, he nearly buckled there but made it 40 yds and I heard him crash just inside the pines. It was all over at 6:40pm and I reached the goal of taking the buck I wanted during bow season :toast
great deer doghunter :clap :toast
