Good lord don't go on my account, different things for others is OK for them, I was just really trying to understand. The dogging thing is foreign to me, I think it is even banned in TX so have no clue as to what you are trying to do...so slap me stupid, just trying to learn all these different things in FL.. certainly not telling anyone anything is wrong...Sorry if I insulted anyone.
I shot a 4pt yesterday afternoon around 5:45. Only problem was I hit him through the backstrap. I found a few spots of blood at dark and went and picked up one of my dogs. She trailed it about 150 yds and we jumped him in a hammock. He looked alright and ran off like nothing was wrong, just liked I suspected he would be. There wasn't much blood where he laid down at so I think he will be fine.
I checked 2 of my main blackpowder stands and they look great. One is overlooking a bedded clearcut on one side and an old skidder trail on the other going through thick hardwood. The bedding contractor set me up perfectly, as they cleaned the skidder trail and made it considerably wider. I think I know who it was and I'm sure he will want a puppy in return but I'm very,very greatful. They also left a 30 yd wide strip of broomsage in the low areas right in front of my stand, which I'm hoping the deer will use as a protected funnel. The acorns are literally dropping everywhere in the hardwoods and there is some nice deer tracks on the cleaned skidder trail.
My other stand is in thinned mature pines and the place is overrun with deer. As I pulled up to the walk-in trail I had a spike run across the road. I walked in there and as I was hoping, the scrapes in there were active and the trails had fresh tracks all over it.
Anyone else hunting much? I can't wait for bow to be over and blackpowder season to be here.
