Just about the only thing that you can do is go ALL metal. Then all they can do is dump corn all day. With a cage it cuts down big time on how far it will throw it.
:saluting
I had put a varmit zapper on mine. But they chewed the wires to my solar panel. The zapper drains the battery too quick so I had to stop using it. I get 6 months on a battery charge easy. With the zapper, lucky to get three weeks
will post pics of the guard I made, it should not rweduce the throw of corn. I know what you mean though.
never had a problem out of the squirrels here although ours are all metal.
man has been trying to build squirrell proof feeders for centuries. they may work for a short time, but then they figure out a way in. best way I've found to protect your feeder is to put it were hawks and owls can get to them before they reach the feeder. if you've never seen an owl get a squirrell it's flat out amazing, fast/deadly and silent. like ninja's of the night. ( they will hunt in the day also).
