I've been going up there to my uncle's place for the past 10 years. First lease was up in Caryville for a year, then down at Bear Creek up to last year. Been hitting the WMAs hard since then.
Did u ever kill a buck in bear creek? I was in there for 2 years and couldnt even fill a doe tag
Filled a doe tag 2 years in a row, but never got a shot at a "legal" (6pt or better) buck. Saw one decent buck about a 10pt, but it was at night. I think the deer are road hunted so hard and poached at night there, that they are almost totally nocturnal. My old man got a nice 8pt 2 years ago, but it was a fluke. We just happened to be the only ones up there the last 2 weeks of the season and found an area that nobody had hunted (cus it didn't look "hunt-worthy") and found a scrape. He hunted 100yds on one side of it, and I was about 300yds the other way. I'm pretty certain he walked almost directly under my stand to freshen a scrape about 10 yards from the tree, but it was so dark, I could barely make out a silhouette. Then, 30 mins later, just at shootin light, I hear my old man's rifle bark once, and I knew he had him. He was my guest, and HE ends up getting the only buck on the lease that year. Go figure.
