Has any one hunted Lake Monroe WMA ? I was thinking of trying to turkey hunt there next month.
Heard it was very thick, and you have to walk the whole thing. Easier if you have an airboat to come in from the lake side to get to the good spots. Only about half of it is really huntable according to the ol' fellers at the Sanford gun shop.
dont waste your time. i talked to guys that went there for gen gun and muzzle loader season, and also talked to a warden about the place it is a sh!t hole swamp but thats not the problem the problem is the amount of people that went there wardens said there was a easy 150 people opening weekend. and small game season guys were leavin cause there was to many huntin it and just shootin all over the place. now with that place open for turkey with no permits that place is gonna be full of people! like the warden said he wont be a bit surprised if some dont get shot in there during spring turkey, he was real surprised no one got it durin gun. other guys that i talked with that went in there said it was way to many people to hunt safely durin gun.
went there 1 time very rough stepped over a log about 6" around and went from ankle deep mud to a ball breaking 3' deep hole of muck with my summit on my back thought i was gonna die very nasty swamp im not going back and ribbons everywhere
you also have to watch out for the nonhunters that walk the trails,they don't post any signs telling the nonhunters it is hunting season,the place was loaded with tree stands and trail ribbons during archery,and gen.gun season,went back 1 time pig hunting ,saw no sign,not going back,may be better going in by boat,it is also the flood plane for the lake and river.
