My dad told me many years ago about a guy walking into a local store and telling the clerk he hadn't seen anything but got off a few 'bush shots' when the bushes moved. He never hunted in our hometown area again for close to 30 years lol
I hunted with this guy one time. Once...We were standing at the trucks before daylight in Croom WMA getting ready to head in. He cracked open a beer. Stuck two more beers in his jacket pocket. Grabbed his shotgun, loaded it, racked one in the chamber, pushed the safety off and put it in the crook of his arm and said "ready?". I said sure...I got in the truck, cranked it, drove off and left his ass standing there. Come to think of it, I have witnessed a lot of dumbasses in Croom. Not sure what it is about that place
Still wonder if you should wear a vest? chances are if you are considering it then you probably should be wearing one. Remember you cant replace a family member if someone else does something stupid.
I found a mesh type safety vest this weekend at Walmart and I wore that over my shirt along with the safety orange cap.
The mesh material was not hot so I picked up two more for wife and son to use next time.
I also put couple safety orange color streamers on the top of the camper using 1/2" PVC pipes.
My wife and I have never heard any gunfire near here in past.
+1 on the mesh in the heat. as for the beer while hunting, can't say I never brought any along when younger but now don't like to have any alcohol in the field, practically had a cavity search cuz a warden saw the remains of a 12 pack (from the previous night at a motel) in the truck.
