Not too may butchers listed here in Florida, but it's a start. Maybe we can contact them to see about spreading this good cause.

I don't know about donating hogs, they carry a lot of different critters like Bruce ,and those worms , and also pseudo rabies.I can't spell it or remember the proper name. Those are some of the reasons they won't take them. Your better off just giving them to people you know.

fldxt, are you saying that growth hormones and antibiotics are not being used by farmers/ranchers, or that they below acceptable set levels by the fda by the time they reach the supermarket. now I'm not trying to be confrontational, and I'm not an agricultural or meat expert, or some conspiracy theory nut, but how can you explain the dramatic size and weight increases in americans in the last 30 yrs or so. are millions of us just fat and lazy , or is there something we are consuming ( high fructose corn syrup for one ) that artificialy aids us to consume more ( portion sizes are thru the roof ). and I agree that prime grade meat from the U.S. is a better product, but who can afford prime now a days. I'm talking more about lower grades and who knows where the original country of origin was, or their standards. and products like slim jims, or items containing " meat by products". I respect your knowledge in this field, and appreciate your passing it along. on a side note I think it would be very cost effective for the state or gov't to pay for game processing centers for donated game, and save some money on food stamps, and reduce game wastage.

You can always try your local law enforcement , I know at times when a deer , hog or cow is hit the deputy will get a hold of someone to come get the carcass ( as long as its still fresh ) and I have been told they donate it to a needy family .

Hope this helps ! .............. Carolann 🙂
