Anyone ever done any of the Manatee County Duette Preserve hunts? I’ve known about this for a couple of years but never applied. As it is only 35 minutes from my house I’m thinking about applying next year. Just wondering is anyone knows how they run the draw, if the hunts are worth the cost of the tags, success ratios, etc. I know I can probably call the county or park staff, but was wondering if anyone here been to one before.

Buddy of mine has killed a couple of the biggest deer harvested during archery.
He loves the place, but has been going since they opened it. His group has been very successful.
The place is eat up with hogs right now also. They've shot hogs every hog weekend.
I'm about 25 miles from the place and have never been....he's been after me to go for 5 years.
Just to convenient I guess :wacko
That looks interesting. I'm going to apply next year.
One question that I have is whether those exempt from having to take a Hunters Safety course, to get their hunting license, still have to take the course to get a permit?
Yes...it's a mandatory orientation. Its not noted, but they do allow for "walk ups" at the check station to go thru the class on any Saturday that is a NON scheduled hunt day. I was told that by one of the Rangers last year.

Not sure, but I guess kortsman was asking about the hunters education class which looks like you need in addition to mandatory orientation.
