Has anyone ever hunted St. Vincent island? I've heard a little bit about it but not sure if I want to try it. I've heard it is all primitive and lots of walking. What can I expect and what all will I need to know for the hunt? What is the best game to hunt for and what are you allowed to kill? If anyone has any pictures of your trip it would be great to see them. :saluting

I hunted for the sambar deer 2 years ago, great time, I choose to ride the bike.ah that sucked. But it was cool , did not get a sambar but I would go back
2 more it was fun
Try a search and some old posts should pop up for St Vincent. This will be my 3rd year hunting it. It has a good road system but like said you're gonna ride a ways to get away from people. Quite a few people walk but I don't care to walk 3-5 miles every morning. We stay on the west side each year. Camped on the island the 1st yr. Brought the camper last year and rented a cabin this year across the water. It's a decent hunt. I've always seen deer and there are some pigs in the area. I've also seen a few sambar and 1 of the red wolves on the island. The water at the island is shallow close to shore so a Jon boat works best to drag up to shore unless you anchor out a ways. My gheenoe gets me right up there. Plenty of reds around the oyster bars if you wanted to try some fishing too. Plan on about 60-70 guys on each side of the island. If the weather goes bad it can get nasty quick especially crossing the bay. Quite a few boats have been lost due to rough seas. The primitive hunt is coming up in a little more than 3 weeks and we'll be there again. 1st stop will be to pick up a bushel of Apalachicola's finest on the way! Good luck if you decide to give it a try.
