A successful reissue of a quota hunt. The hunt started out on Thursday when we went to set the stands and get ready for the long weekend. I had this one particular stand that was my go to stand. (stand choice 1) I placed it out Thursday and had plenty of sign around it. My buddy went in an area that was about 300 yards from me (after he asked if it was ok)((like it mattered because it is public land)) Friday morning came and I was in the stand by 6:00 waiting on daylight... I sat for 4 hours and my buddy text me and said that he had a small buck come by at 8:30, I told him that he must have not come in close enough because he didn't get a shot??? he replied "he didn't go far". 11:30 he text that he wanted to get the buck cleaned before it got to hot. We got down and went to his house to clean his buck. On the way out we passed by several people that said that a game warden was at he gate. After stopping at the gate to show the game warden out kill we went to his house to clean it. I hunted that evening with no luck seeing nothing. Saturday morning we sat in the stand from 6:00 till 12:30, after seeing nothing we decided to pull the stands. I then carried the stands to our second choice hunting that evening till dark. It was my second choice only because I shot an 8 point there last year and didn't know what might have been coming. This morning I got into the stand around 6:15 waiting for daylight. I started grunting right the crack of dawn and at 7:40 I was sitting surfing the web on the phone and heard something walking thru the water. I knew right away that it was a deer and laid my phone down. Then I saw his feet and stepped about three steps and started working a scrape at about 5 yards. He came in to my left and I had to shoot him right handed ( I'm left handed) I made the shot and he charged off running thru some small planted pines that was killed by a fire. I heard him crashing into them and finally made a big crash. The hardest thing is to sit after the shot and wait to give a deer time. Everything runs thru your mind did I make a good shot, did he many get up and walk off? Finally got down and started the recovery. since I heard him run thru water the entire way I walked right in the direction that I last heard him. I walked right to him half under some brush.
