Non transferable permits is set to expire and go back to the way it was unless it is renewed in 2012. When the changed it a couple years ago it was designed to basically be a 4 year test. So speak up to FWC is you want it to go back. Numbers say that less people are hunting on quotas than before and most biologist for the state didn't want it to go non trans and will recommend it reverts back.
The lil cry babies are the ones that got it changed in the first place and they were out numbered if it wasn't for the central florida bowhunters association basically getting it changed by themselves.
Sorry, that is not true. And they will never go back to transferable, because they are in the works of doing away with quotas completely, and going to a tag system
It is true it is set to expire in 2012 as when it went non trasferable it was set to expire and be a living document meaning it could be changed easily without legislation. It still does not matter if it went to a tag system or not that would have nothing to do with quota hunts on WMAs! As the quota hunts deal with numbers of people let on a WMA not ammount of game taken.
I know to many people that work for the state and go to many meetings this I do know. YOu can think that going to a tag system will do away with quota hunts all you want but you would be wrong! All a tag system will do is limit number of deer taken by each person not anything to do with quota hunts.
I really do not see permits ever being transferrable again. I also to not see quotas disappearing. Halfmoon whould have 300, or more hunters opening morning. There would be a disaster. I wish permits were still transferrable. With the old system I had a quality hunt every year with out having to resort to spec. op. hunts. The last 2 years I have not got a muzzle hunt, and may not next year. It has got a lot harder to get a quality draw. The funny thing is it has nothing to do with permits being non- transferrable. The new system seperated all catagories thus making it more difficult to be drawn. You used to have to decide if you wanted to get drawn for a quality bow hunt, or a quality muzzle hunt. Some guys would have there 1st choice be 1 or the other. Now with seperate catagories there are more applications, more competion for each catagory. The same scenario goes for the seperation of the hog hunts from general gun applications. I think we would have been better off not seperating these hunts. It would have made you choose between wanting 1 hunt type more than the other. It would have spread the wealth by making you choose. Some guys also like me got hurt to when they went to the new system. If you did not get drawn the year they seperated the primitave weapons hunts archery/muzzle you got a preference point for each. While the guys like me had a hunt the year before got the shaft getting no points for either hunt type. They should have given guys a choice to have a point in 1 catagory, or the other. Now it is taking 3 years, or more to get a hunt that I used to get drawn for without any preference points, or at the very worst I got drawn for the hunt every other year.

To get your quality hunts every year, how many people did you have apply for you?
I will admit I had 2 buddies that only hunt general gun, and they would let me use there primitive weapons choice. I did not buy there stamps for them. Still your lack of drawing an archery hunt was the product of the system. Was your 1st choice an archery hunt, or a muzzle hunt? Even with my buddies choices I was able to draw a quality hunt muzzle/archery without a preference point several times. We would have been better off not seperating the hunt catagories. Some guys like archery over muzzle. Some guys want to kill a hog more than a deer. Should have left it the same, and just made the permits non-transferrable. This would have weeded out the hoarders, and spread the wealth around a little better.
MAn I don't even see a reason to have archery quota's. I've had some of my best hunting during bow season on walk in wma's back in the day. I have a friend who would always get more than one quota on a youth hunt for his kid. Each permit is worht one deer no matter what, sometimes they even would get two doe tags out of five. I never liked that and it's not fair to other kids. I had a real good draw this year and am really happy with the nw system Did you know that some guys would get all kinds of people to enter drawings then guide them for money?
