I agree,I don't think bears tearing up deer feeders is a good reason to hunt them. I do believe the have reached huntable populations though, and a little bear hunting may make them respect humans again and stay away from homes. I really don't think there will be any bear hunting in Fl in the near future the way things are going.
Maybe Im just prejudiced against them, Im not saying they should be exterminated just that loyal floridian license buyers shouldnt have to go out west to kill a bear.

Now your making sence.I totaly agree with you there.I am a bear hunter,I go to NC every year just to hunt bear.I would love to hunt them in my home state,But not to wipe them out.
Any idea how the Florida bear population compares to the one in North Carolina? I just don't believe there's that many more bears in other states that allow bear hunting than there are in Florida. As I've said before, I'd sure rather have permitted hunters killing a few hundred bears each year that they'll eat and use than to have FWC or other government agencies kill and let go to waste. Proper management, proper management, proper management. It's working for gators, ain't no reason it won't work for bear.
I dont believe any animal should be hunted into extinction. I just get worked up over our game managers taking thier cues from anyone other than the hunters or biologists.
I don't think Fl has as many bears as other states do.Fl's problem is loss of habitat, they are concentrated in certain areas. Other places that have them in Fl don't have huntable populations. In my club there is one bear I know of on 33,000 acres.
