Well, the first run of food plots were a disaster...or a success. Depending on how you want to look at it.
I am not sure exactly what happened as I wasn't there for 2 weeks to see. We got a tremendous amount of rain basically about 8 days in a row after planting. Not sure if it was enough to flood it out and rot the oat seed or what (or if it was a bad batch), but there was none growing. Same with the peas. However If I look closely, I can find a very few at ground level. However, there is a tremendous amount of deer tracks on the plots. Like so many you can't put your hand down without there being tracks. Not sure if the peas actually came up and the deer are just ripping them out of the ground as they sprout, or they didn't come up. All I know is its depressing to look at.
Gonna re-do it this weekend with something different

Put up a browse enclosure to protect some of the plants.

They actually looked very good. Problem is we got way too much rain the week after I planted. The tri mix was growing good and the brassicas were starting to come up. However some areas were standing in water so I am not sure how those areas are going to look. I overseeded on Friday and by Sunday I could barely see any seed. I think the deer and hogs vacuumed it all up as the plots were beat down with tracks. Now that its been dry for a week I am going to assess it and maybe get one more bag of oats to overseed one more time.
