Grand Finale (Pintail Smackdown)

This has been a great a Duck Season for me and I thought it couldn't get better . Well I was very wrong . We went the to same general area , but with better intel from my previous hunts and from a friend , you know who you are , keep you anonymous . We only had one neighbor about 500 yards . They shot their limit quick and were gone by 7 ish . I shot a Drake Wigeon , teal and ringer early . But I really wanted a Pintail to finish on a good note . I saw lots of them flying high and out of range . They were getting skybusted all aroung us . I told my other buddies to quit shooting especially one that couldn't hit a flying elephant . We paused for a good 1/2 hour and around 8:30 the Pintails started circling more and looking at the dekes . We waited patiently and our patience paid off . I had a pair that circled and came in from my left . I watched out of the corner of my eye , when they were almost over me I raised up and 1st shot the Drake , one shot and he was coming down and quickly shot a the hen , 1st shot hit her followed with a second and winged her . I saw her sailing over the cattails behind me . I then realized I didn't see where the Drake fell . I had a moment of panick . I asked my buddy on the other side of the cattails if the hen was there and he said it sailed close to the other cattail line and someone pop her . I started looking for the Drake and found him right behind me about 15 feet . Man was I happy another Pintail Drake fot the year , but then I was dissapointed not getting the Hen . I settled back in my spot . Few minutes went by and I see another Drake Pintail coming my way . He sees the dekes and he's coming . I raised on him and one shot he was falling . Holy Shizz I shot 2 Pintails , I couldn't believe it . I picked him up and had a smile from ear to ear . I thought it couldn't get better . Well the Pintails started raining in on us . My other buddies , one killed 2 Drakes , and the other killed 1 . Man we were on fire . We paused for a few minutes to take in what we had done . By now it was 10 am , I was done . One of my buddies was done . The one that couldn't hit an elephant needed one more to finish his limit . As we were standing there , here came another Drake Pintail to out spread and we watched him as he was coming and noticed he was missing the sprig . I told him shoot em if you want , he said nahhh it's missing the sprig . I couldn't beleive it , actually passing on a Pintail cause it didn't have the tail feather . We just watched as he took off out of sight . What an awesome day . BTW I did get both Drakes on Guncam but haven't finished editing the video .

Sunday I was back at it with another buddy . It was more of a relax hunt , and thinking of the precious day . I shot good again took my time . Not much of big ducks , lots of teals , ringers and a few good Drake Shovelers . I ended up with a nice Gadwall Hen , 2 Hen Shovelers , 2 BWT , and Drake Hen Ringer . Oh and yeah this time it's a Hen Gadwall LOL .
