Lots of firsts yesterday. First time using my own decoys and my own jerk rig, first time using my layoutboat or any layout boat for that matter.. Never owned a longtail or operated one before either...
Lots of mistakes... setup wrong so the motor was in my gun sights... (dumb) the list goes on. Even could not identify whistlers until it was too late... 🙁 I had a beautiful shot on 6 of them... didnt pull the trigger.
Did I have a good time? YES... Did my son? YES. Had good company and took home some birds. Lots to learn. Next time the birds wont be so lucky. Good stuff.
Hope yall did good out there.

Working the rig!!!!!
The aftermath is tough on a 10 year old.
Always good times when you can spend time with your children and learn together.

Looks like yall had a great time duck hunting. The longtail motor takes some getting used to, turns seem to be wide, no neutral, no reverse. I used a bird book to help ID birds and Ducks Unlimited web site. The best thing you can do to learn how to duck hunt is to do exactly what you are doing, go do it. I have been duck hunting for a while and learn a little something every time I go. Scouting an area is great and takes a great deal of time, I try to double up and fish and scout at the same time. Have fun and be safe.
Looked like a great day and I myself have set up only to realize I positioned the boat wrong, great day all in all and thanks for sharing
