All you need is a shotgun, some camo, and a little know how. Your all set. I hear the STA's are a stooting gallery. Any newby's that want to duck hunt should try for these. If your a little soft some waders' a couple of dekes, and a call, or 2 would help.

Thing I worry about is knowing which ones I can shoot and recognizing them in flight, whether a drake or hen, etc. Hate to be stopped by the GW and be told I shot the wrong things.

Hence the reason Ive never tried it. I don't know one duck from the other

I hear ya, a hogs a hog, a deers a deer but man there must be 150 kinds of ducks and then to tell the difference between male and female while they are flying 45 mph. I have to give it to the duck hunters who know there stuff. I would like to try it sometime with someone who knows what they are doing though.
