I fully understand that, and have experienced the joy watching a dog retrieve it's first bird ( no exp using dogs for deer/hogs yet) and most of the dog owners I've seen love their dogs and they are well treated and cared for, and realize for many, dogs are just a tool to get a job done . but have also seen dogs kept on a short chain whenever not hunting, never properly groomed, allowed to excersize and are starved ,cursed, beaten and even killed outright if they do something the owner doesn't like. I understand some dogs require a little "discipline" now and then, a zap from a shock collar or a smack or 2 from a crop/whip, depending on the temprament of the dog and it's infraction. other more gentle soft spirited dogs like my britts this is Never needed a stern look or "bad dog" has the same effect. to me there are no bad dogs/kids, just bad owners/parents. some dogs just weren't meant to be hunters. and some people don't deserve to be dog owners/parents. can't stand to see animals/kids/ women mistreated.imo this is abuse, and the person dishing it out is the one with the problem.
I still say it's easy with a good dog/dogs.
Are you serious? I thought you were just kidding when you said that. Any hunting is easy when you have a good dog,a good spot,a good rifle, lot's of money....... The problem to start out with is getting a good dog in the first place. Then you have to take care of them year round, the work never ends. Now in my opinion,I don't see the sport in sitting way up in a tree with a hogs head burried in a pile of corn.To me that's easy but it still takes a lot of effort and money to maintain a feeder. I can honestly say I could have killed a lot more hogs with my bow this year than I killed with my dogs, themn things come running up to the feeder like clockwork. I do enjoy slipping around in the woods with a bow and sneaking up on them but I've killed well over 100 hogs in my life and I'm just not that crazy to kill them like I was when I was younger.
haven't been to my feeder in about 2 weeks, but it's been up for close to 2 months now and no rooting. I know there are a few around from tracks etc and actualy stepped on one, but they seem afraid to cross a drainage ditch to get the corn. squirels and racoons are getting fat. just bought 2 bags of hog wild and was thinking of mixing it with the corn in the feeder. think it will gum it up?

I am serious. Hunting without bait on public land is much more difficult then hunting with a dog or dogs. IMO. I agree hunting over bait is very easy. I ran dogs when I was younger (mostly spot and release with one catch dog) It was EASY!!!! And your not gonna convice me otherwise. I have quite a few friends who run dogs on a regular basis and I know it takes work training a dog or dogs, but they enjoy doing that. Thats why they dog hunt. I grew tired it and enjoy the "hunt" more then just the chase. To each their own. Pot stired.lol
I don't even consider a hog a game animal. I rate the with the same as hunting racoons or possums. I do enjoy hunting them in any way and eating them, but don't think it takes any skill at all to kill one using any method. I guess if you want to hunt them with rocks or sticks you will up it a level.
