Dropping a dog on a hog in an open field is a different ball game than from how I've been able to run dogs. That would be a nice change.
You are right, once you have a good dog or dogs, dog hunting isn't as hard. How do those dogs become good though? Do they sell magic wands for training dogs? Last time I checked there is still a considerable amount of time and effort that goes into training them up.
On the same token, once you figure out a particular area by using 10 different expensive trail cameras and pattern when the animals are coming into that area....still hunting them isn't that hard either. All you have to do is sit in the area you know they are moving through with a rifle and a 100 yard shooting lane.
This post was not about which is harder, just to show that there is real danger involved, and it's not just a matter of going to the pound and picking up a couple dogs and turning them loose in the woods.
I don't understand why people are so bitter towards dog hunters. I find it stupid, we are all on the same side.
Not bitter at all. Just tired of dog hunters constaintly saying how hard it is to hunt with dogs. It's hard training a dog to do anything. But thats dog training, not dog hunting. More power to them if thats what you enjoy have at it. I have zero issue with dog hunting or people who do it. I get it! As for the guy getting hurt, I don't see any differnce between someone letting their guard down and shooting them selfs in the foot. Sometimes people get to comfortble doing something they have done hundreds of times and thats when stuff like this happens. It was a hunting accident and i bet he probaly won't let it happen again. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery and all turns out well for him.
I reckon I titled the thread inappropriately, the difficulty of hog dogging wasn't my point at all, nor was it stressed in any of the thread. I don't think anyone even mentioned that dog hunting is hard...

I already admitted that I titled the thing wrong. My bad. I'm not seeing where I'm bashing anyone, just pointing out the fact that no one was talking about how hard dog hunting is and you hopped in to stir the pot. You didn't address any of the topics that the 3 pages of thread were discussing.
