i can shoot 20 yds across my backyard. if I move to the side of my house, open the gate and shoot from the sidewalk into the backyard, Ican shoot 30 yds. on rare occassions I have crossed the street and shot into my backyard from the neighbors front yard across the street. have to do that early in the morning and have my boy watch for cars. that doesn't happen very often. lol

I've been bow hunting for 25 yrs, 40 yards is a long ways!
I like to keep it inside 25 yards.

Shooting well on paper is nothing like shooting at living game, put some horns on it and everything has changed. You can practice all you want and still make the Texas heart shot,it happens to everybody.I rarely shoot at anything over 20-25 yards.I had a friend who shot maybe once or twice before season and he was one of the most succesful bow hunters I have ever known, and made far fewer bad shots than guys I knew who shot a bow ranges year round. I shot an 8 pt. once that I watched feed in a bean field till the sun came up the he went and bedded. I grunted a few times then he came running to me. When he hopped a fence I took my time and put the pin right behind the shoulder at 20 yards broadside standing still with nothing between us and released the arrow. I heard a loud crack, the deer disapeared, and I noticed a tiny limb shaking in front of me.I never seen the deer run and couldn't figure out what happened so I climbed down to look. Once I got close to where the deer was it was laying there in a pile.I seen no blood or arrow so I grabbed it's horns and flipped it over and the arrow was in it's head.I still have the horns with the broadhead in the brain cavity. All I can figure is I hit that tiny limb and it deflected my arrow . Nothing beats years experience and being in the woods I don't care how much you practice.
