Well, I've given up even considering killing anything with a bow this year. I planned to try to get a hog this week down in Myakka during its archery season, but it ain't gonna happen. I thought I was ready to try a shot on an animal after decent success on a target out back of the house. So since I got up too late to hit the morning hunt yesterday, I decided to practice a bit more. Good thing. Every shot I felt this weird vibration. I accidentally dry fired it a few weeks ago at about half pull, and was wondering if I'd messed something up. But everything checked out ok at the archery shop. So I shot a few times over the weekends, and thought it was ok. I was hitting the target from 10 and 20 yards pretty consistent, not dead on but close enough to kill.
I went out yesterday afternoon and set up my target. The vibration was back! On my second arrow, as I let it fly the quiver jumped off the bow! The little cam lock lever on the POS is worn out, and when I have it pushed down hard on the little rail, it's ok, but it starts loosening up as I shoot and that's where the vibration was from. So I took the quiver off and shot a few times. Seems like everything is out of whack now - my peep site, the pins, everything has changed and when I pull back to my cheek spot I have to search for everything to align it. And of course, it ain't on target any more.
Anyway, trying to get it all straightened out now seems like wasted effort. General gun is just around the corner, next weekend I can hit Myakka with my shotgun. Then I can go up and hit the lease in Mayo the rest of the year with my .243 or shotgun.
I think I'll look into getting a new bow and all the fixings for next year, and maybe put a reel on this one and shoot some mullet or tilapia with it.
I know on crossbows they have a dry fire preventer, do compound bows have that too on the new ones?
Our seasons are so far from everyone elses I am getting a crossbow for archery season next year...tired of looking at ya'lls kills and not being able to hunt here.
did they put in in a press at the shop, wonderin if you have a stress fracture in one of the limbs.
Yes, he used a press. The vibe was the quiver. Once I took it off, it felt smooth when I fired, just everything is off and feels awkward. I think the peep site is out of place as well. Basically, I'd rather use the time sighting in my rifle and shotgun than worrying with the bow. I'll save up some between now and end of season, then come spring buy a new bow, all set up for me. Might even go the crossbow route since they'll be allowed next year.
I hadn' shot my mathews since 02, all it needed was a lttle peep tweak and the arrows re-fletched, but forgot to try it with the quiver attatched. now can't pull it back anyway. if I had to buy a new one I'd probly go with a crossbow also.
