Not looking for specifics but what part of florida was that taken? :911
Had to be down in the south zone.
Thanks for all the Congrats fellas . Here's how it went down . I had seen this buck a week ago in the area . On the way over there , I saw a smaller legal buck ( 5pt) but I was going for 2 specific bucks I had seen . Drove down the road and spotted a doe and a small 8 feeding . Stopped and started glassing the area . After a few minutes I see antlers sticking out of a flag pond , bingo . There he was waiting for people to drive by , it was game on . Found out which way the wind was blowing and figuered out how I was going to get to him . Had to belly crawl about 150 yards in a pasture with only a couple of small brush . It wasn't fun crawling through wet ground , and ants . Finally made it to about 80 yards ,then he was on the other side of the pond . Had one problem , there was 2 bedded small 8's on the left and a doe bedded on the right . He was feeding heavily and would only lift his head when he would hear a truck passing . Only had one option and it was straight through the pond . Another problem was I allways see a big A$$ gator in there . Well I figured if the buck was in there before there was no gator . Then the smaller bucks stood up and started making their way over to the doe . The big boy saw what was happening and he started chasing the doe around . The only way I was gonna get closer was right through the pond . Well started my way in and was really muddy and about 2-1/2 feet deep . All this time I'm thinking if I was gettin wet for nothing . Made it 3/4 ways through and I raised up and I see him on the other side feeding . I ducked down and composed myself . My heart was about to fly out of my chest . I raised up again and ranged him 53 yards . I said damn thats a long shot . But I shoot allot at 40's and 50's . Raised up again and 53 yards . Got back down and then I heard a truck pass by and he started staring the opposite way . He was quartering away from me , soo I put my 50 yard pin on his back aiming infront of his rear leg . Squeezed the trigger and saw the arrow in flight and it was flying perfect . I heard the hit and he jumped and I saw the fletching sticking out . He ran about 40 yards and stopped looked around . Then he started walking and then his rear legs buckled . He went another 20 yards and as he passed a cabbage palm he dissappeared . Where he went there was allot of dogfennel . The other 8 ran to the last spot I had seen him and started staring down . I figured he was having his last words with him . I backed out to the truck where my wife was waiting . I gave her a thumbs up . Then the long wait . I dicided to give him an hour and a half . Longest hour and a half . While waiting talked to several guys that drove by and had seen me stalking him . One guy offered his dog to bloodtrail , I told him I would call him if I needed it . 10 am and it was time to look for him , I eased my way in to the last place I had seen him . 30 yards away from the cabbage palm he was laying there dead . What a relief THANK YOU LORD . If I spooked anybodies deer with my scream , sorry . Called the wife and told her I found it . The rest is the same , dragging , cleaning , pics, and a beer. Started stalking at 7:20 and shot him at 8:40 . My biggest archery buck . Oh the arrow went in and got stuck on the opposite shoulder . It went through the liver and one lung .
How can you not get excited about the season after reading something like that? Keep up the good work.
