I've heard several different numbers for minimum safe arrow weights over the years. One number I've often seen is 5 grains of weight for every pound of draw weight. Others are minimum weight by bow (usually 250 gr for 70# draw). Anybody have any different info? My arrows are 29", and fully decked and ready to fire, they are 315.2 grains including the 100gr tips. I've test fired 2 arrows so far, and they are smokin fast! There is a significant audible difference in speed between release and target impact between the PSE's and my Terminator Lites, which are 1/4" shorter, but 2.5 gr/inch heavier.
I'm shooting in a 3d tourney next Saturday, and I want to get some more practice in before I go. BUT, I want to make sure I'm also shooting safe weights.
Not sure because you didn't put what weight your shooting or what kind of bow. Here is a chart that can help you. :flowers

Looks like you may be a little on the lite side. Be carefull!!!
So, I should be shooting 385 grains? I'd have to add 70+ grains, which would mean a 170 grain tip even leaving the arrows at full length. Right now, they are cut at 29", which leaves a good amount of the arrow out beyond the rest (2+"). Do they even sell 170 grain tips? Or is there some kind of weight I should be adding to the arrow shafts?
