Today's progress.
We got the buttplate in. Turned out very nice IMO! Obviously, this just the inital fitting. We'll be blending the wood and metal once we get closer to finishing, that's why the wood is higher than the metal on most of the hardware at this point.
Also, Supercracker finally let the ram touch the wall and took a plane to the forestock. We made great progress in this area as well. The picture doesn't do much justice but this looks and feels so much better than what it was a couple days ago. It's not 100% yet but it's getting pretty dang exciting 'cause the finish line is in site!!
It's amazing to me the talent that some folks have to do this kind of stuff. Did you buy the stock that was just rough cut or did you form it out of a single block of wood? Man that's looking great. I've seen on line where you can purchase the rough cast brass trigger gaurds and buttplates. Is this a kit or just a "from scratch" assembly? I know you said a "pile of parts" but was it just stuff you had laying around? Just curious.

Cool stuff! Doing something like that and creating something you can really use must give you a great deal of satisfaction and sense of accomplishment. :cheers
The stock was square from the lock panel forward. It was inlet for the lock and barrel but pretty rough though. It still took several hours to get them where they are now. This is a "kit" from Track of the Wolf. Good quality parts but its far from the bolt together kits you can get from Traditions, etc. But, the end product should be far superior....
I am lucky to be learning from Supercracker. Hes got some good ideas and every now and then he lets me pick up a chisel....lol!!
