now only if they would allow them on public land!
If i'm using my shotgun, I simply use the sling from the gun or a piece of seatbelt works very well. Until you need it in the truck!!!
I simply use the sling from the gun good idea openseason4me!
I carry a collapsable pack frame and a large canvas game bag if I'm hunting in a WMA. If I take a deer, I bone it out on the spot and bring it out all at one time. That way, when I get home, I don't have to fool around with disposing of the skin, bones and head. All I have to do is wash it off and get it cooled. Since these southern deer run small, I can bag the cleaned, boned meat in 4 or 5 2 gallon ziplock bags and stick it in the extra fridge in the garage. After a couple days, when it is good and chilled, it gets cut, burger ground and vacuum packed for the freezer.
The private land I hunt has a skinning shed and running water. If I take a deer there, we just toss it in the back of the truck and head to the house. There is a pit dug for the skins, head and bones so disposing of that is easy. Toss it in and fill it with the tractor when it comes to the end of the season.
I learned to do the boning and packing from my father back in Colorado. There, we hunt elk and those big mulies. Dad always said it never makes sense not to be able to take at least one load of meat out with you after you take an animal. Doing such will always save you at least one trip. Good advice and something I still use. :cowboy:
I usually do it the hard way with a drag rope.Sometimes with dogs holding on the other end. I am gonna get me something I can skid them out when I am still hunting.
