You will read mixed reports on soybeans. I hunted 2 years in Panama City and 4 years in Newport. The bears in the PC lease would scratch the soybeans out of gravity feeders but didn't seem to eat them. The bears in my Newport lease ate soybeans like it was candy.

Steel pole option 1, or stop feeding option 2. They will keep coming no matter what.

if they have plenty to eat soy beans or low on the list.if things get tight they will eat them. so save on feeder repairs and feed you need to hang it from a tree real high,or quit feeding for awhile.there aint much a bear wont eat

That is the reason I don't have a feeder out in my place.
One of my neighbor told me that about 4 years ago he had a feeder in his place and a bear came around. He said he had to remove his feeder as the bear was damaging it regularly. After the feeder was removed that bear continued to come around for few months.
Only feeding I do on my place is to dig a hole with post digger and put some corn in it and cover it back up with dirt. Hogs will find the hole and spend hours digging out the corn. I only do this while I'm up there and hogs have never taken more than 2 nights to find it. When I leave there is no more corn until I come back following weekend.
