My dad has been working at this new project they are making. Near the site he tells me that every morning he sees hundreds of "bass" eating in schools, small fishes. So after hearing this nonsense for a couple of days, finally we decided to hit it. The place is near the MIA Airport, i think is part of the Tamiami Canal(Well known fishing place). So we go there, and we start casting, i saw tails above the water, i was thinking tarpon. Then i saw to my right 20+ of fish jumping above water, couldn't ID them. So ran and casted to them my lucky rapala lure, nothing. Second cast BANG, fish on. It's fighting really good, i am thinking it's either a tarpon or a snook. I keep fight and reeling, then the fish goes into the floating vegetation and it's stuck there. After reeling and pulling it breaks free and finally i am able to see the fish, to my surprise it's a Jack and a really nice one. I was excited, kept fishing nothing. I try to see if i could find them again eating in schools but i didn't saw them. I kept casting, after 1 hour or 2 i got another fish on. Again another surprise a small snook. I was in the water again, water up to my knees. I had him two feet in front of my when i decided to grab the line by the hand, i had notice the line was damaged, but i grab it anyways, once i did the fish did it's thing and broke the line on the weak point. The snook took my lucky rapala lure and probably will die :pinch . My dad caught a Peacock bass and a snook. The snook was release it was small like mine. Anyways it was a great day and very rewarding, didn't have to drive to the beach :tung

There's a lot of things folks think are bad to eat because they had a bad experience, or heard about a bad experience from someone else. Most of the times it comes down to how the thing was cleaned and prepared. If it ain't cleaned and handled properly, it will probably taste bad.

JDiaz, I'm glad you had a good time fishing. I have to get back down that way and try for those peacocks again. When I do, I'm bringing a boat or canoe, and getting to them from a different angle!
