60 degrees in the am... cup of Joe, fly fishing bluegill, spinner for trout and bass ... yup... thats some good stuff.
This year we headed back to our old stomping grounds in the Dillard area. As usual, it was great. For me.... its about the fishing. Its ALWAYS about the fishing. I think the pictures tell the story well, but i will throw in some extras.
Andy's Trout Farm was tops as usual. For kids, its a must. It was not our first time there, but it still was a blast. One year we are going to have to stay in one of the cabins there. The kids are now pulling the trout out of the smaller lakes on their own. Fishinmom and I goto the larger lake. She was really doing well but most of the time putting a bit too much pressure on those trout at the end. The Rooster tail would end up pulling. I HAVE to remember my net next year.
My rig of choice for the bluegill was a double drop rig. A fly popper with a sinker fly. I usually would also have a strike indicator on the fly rod. For the spinner, I would use a clear plastic float. If the bit was slow, I always had a small jar of gulp or some live wax worms to tip the hooks with.
Ducks and Geese... Wow.. Did I say Duck and Geese? They were everywhere. These guys were clearly residents, but I bet Lake Burton and the marsh areas up there do well.
The week went by too fast. Especially the evenings ... we found some corn whiskey in the local package store that was AWESOME. 11 hours later, we are back in the heat and settled. Good stuff. Now its time to start getting ready for gator season!
God I love the mountains. Been too long since I have been there
Did you guys eat at the Dillard House? That place is awesome.
Oh heck yeah! That's a must!
There's one over by Dahlonega called the Smith house? It is better than the Dillard house
